[신선생 영어교실] 오랜만에 생활속의 영어 업데이트 합니다.

1) Bank holiday
튜니지아 친구가 다음주가 Bank holiday라고 해서 '은행이 쉬는날?'이라고 생각했는데, 사전을 찾아보니 '공휴일'을 통칭한다고 하네요.
위키피디아 정의는 다음과 같습니다.
: A bank holiday is a public holiday in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth countries, other European countries such as Switzerland, and a colloquialism for a public holiday in Ireland. There is no automatic right to time off on these days, although banks close and the majority of the working population is granted time off work or extra pay for working on these days, depending on their contract.

2) in a nutshell
nutshell은 견과의 껍질, 아주 작은 그릇이라는 뜻이 있는데, 'in a nutshell'이라는 표현은 '간단하게 말해서'라는 뜻으로 사용하네요. 몰랐을때는 잘 안 들렸는데, 알고보니 외국인 친구들이 Call Conference에서도 많이 쓰는 표현이었더라구요.
예문 ) In a nutshell, we are bankrupt. 한마디로 우린 쫄딱 망했어.
