[신선생 영어교실] 선거일이 얼마 안 남았죠? 선거에 관련된 영어표현 2가지를 소개합니다. 투표 꼭 하세요~ 아무 행동도 하지 않고, 정치인들 욕하시면 안됩니다.

1) run-off 2차 투표
1차 투표에서 동점일 경우, 2차 투표로 간 상황이라고 합니다. 혹은 선거과정에서 다른 후보자들이 다 떨어져나가고 2명의 후보자가 경쟁하는 상황을 말하기도 한다네요.
(영영사전) A run-off is an extra vote or contest which is held in order to decide the winner of an election or competition, because no-one has yet clearly won.
(예문) There will be a run-off between these two candidates on December 9th.

2) run on a platform 공약을 내걸다
Platform에 (정당의) 공약, 정견이라는 뜻이 있네요.
(예문) The state was preparing for the inauguration of its new governor, who had run on a platform of ridding the government of corruption.
